Choosing and dimensioning of the rivets

The type, the dimensions and the material of the rivet, must be defined considering the material of the components to be joined and the quality of the joining needed.

The most common standards used in the industries are: UNI 747, UNI 750, DIN 660, NF E 27-151...

The rivet's length "L" for solid rivets is not very easy to define, without making tests.

To simplify the problem, we can consider that in general the length “L” is :

L = 1.1 s + 1.3 d where d= rivet's diameter s=total thickness to be joined

if the parts are pre-pierced, the diameter "d1" of the holes, should be :

d1 = 1.15 d (indicatively)

More complicated is the calculation of the number of rivets necessary to guarantee the right hold between the parts. In this case it's necessary to know the value and the typology (static or cyclic) of the forces applied on the parts, the working temperature, the environment and the safety coefficients. It's fundamental to consider the rivets' material behaviour in particular temperature conditions or in contact with chemicals.

The CAPMAC 's riveting techniques and machines are patented.

Riveting, means joining two parts by rivets. There are many typologies of rivets: tubular, semi-tubular, solid, auto-piercing.leggi tutto..

In general the riveting techniques are considered a wasting time method: pre-piercing the parts, fill in with the rivets and rivet them is an expensive process.leggi tutto..
